READOUT: EXIM Chair’s Council on China Competition Meets to Discuss Current State of Global Competition, Subcommittee Recommendations
WASHINGTON – The 2021-2022 Chair’s Council on China Competition for the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) met yesterday for the third time this year to discuss the progress and recommendations of the subcommittees within the council.
Council Chair Admiral Gary Roughead, U.S. Navy (ret.) led the virtual meeting of expert members and EXIM President and Chair Reta Jo Lewis addressed the council for the first time. Chair Lewis reiterated her commitment to supporting U.S. job creation by expanding outreach and opportunity for small and historically underserved businesses, with a focus on enhanced collaboration and partnerships with state and local officials.
Chair Lewis said that as our economy recovers from the pandemic, American companies and American workers can count on EXIM standing shoulder-to-shoulder with them as they compete around the globe. She also said that full implementation of EXIM’s China and Transformational Exports Program and the new Office of Global Finance Development will strengthen U.S. competitiveness in exports. Chair Lewis concluded by saying that the council’s advice and recommendations will provide EXIM a roadmap for helping U.S. exporters compete with China.
Following her remarks, Chair Lewis fielded questions about her plans for EXIM and several senior EXIM staff members provided updates regarding the current state of global competition with China.
Council subcommittees presented their findings on various subjects, which included global export credit and high-tech transformational exports. The presentations were followed by open discussion and input from council members.
The Chair’s Council on China Competition is a subcommittee of EXIM’s Advisory Committee dedicated to providing guidance on advancing comparative leadership of the United States with respect to China and supporting U.S. innovation and employment through competitive export finance.
