Mississippi Development Authority is EXIM Regional Export Promotion Program Member of the Year
Washington, D.C. - The Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) in Jackson, Mississippi-the state's leading economic and community development agency-has been named Member of the Year of the Regional Export Promotion Program (REPP) of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM).
The MDA will receive the REPP member award at EXIM's 2019 Annual Conference being held at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C. The awards will be presented at the luncheon today. The MDA is one of two recipients of the REPP member award; the Alabama International Trade Center also will be recognized.
For the past three years, the MDA has hosted the Mississippi International Finance and Procurement Opportunities Road Show, a program dedicated to export education training for local businesses. The 2018 road show enabled EXIM to provide export consultation to more than 150 small businesses and resulted in a $300,000 EXIM Express Insurance policy for a new company providing location intelligence solutions.
"The Mississippi Development Authority is an engaged regional member with EXIM in bringing export finance to small and medium-sized businesses in their local communities. The MDA's innovative road show is proving to be a great forum for drawing together companies seeking to export with the trade experts who can help make those exports a reality. We look forward to continuing our collaboration to provide Mississippi businesses with the resources they need to succeed internationally," said EXIM Senior Vice President of Small Business James Burrows.
"Our partnership with EXIM helped overall exports to increase by almost 8 percent from 2017 to 2018. We continue to employ a comprehensive strategy to grow our state's economy as we help our businesses achieve their goals," said MDA Executive Director Glenn McCullough, Jr.
The MDA provides technical assistance to the state's entrepreneurs and small businessmen and women and oversees programs that support Mississippi's minority and women-owned businesses. The agency works to recruit new business to the state and to retain and expand existing Mississippi industries. For more information, please visit www.mississippi.org.
